Design That Matters: Elevate Your Bedroom with These Three Simple Swaps

As I sip my coffee at my kitchen counter, I can’t help but stare at my bedroom through its open door. I have always loved my bedroom décor however, I feel it is time to spice things up. My bedroom feels stale and stuffy. The colors are out of season and there is just something missing! I have a few ideas of how I’ll elevate my bedroom that I’ll share with you. Perhaps you’ll find them helpful!

Your bedroom should be a safe haven for you. A place you love to spend time in. A place where the colors, textures, and décor bring you joy! However, sometimes your bedroom needs just a touch of something to really elevate it and freshen it up. How can we accomplish this?

1. Switch out conventional pillows for decorative ones!

Decorative throw pillows are the fastest, most efficient and most economical way to transform any room in your home. They make your home cozier and bring new life by completing the look of your space. Even with a limited budget, you can add pops of texture, color, and luxury. Pillows are not permanent however, they are a must when updating your bedroom decor. So please, take some bold risks! Are you obsessed with cacti and bold yellow? Give ‘em a try! Your home is your canvas and throw pillows offer a variety of options you can definitely get creative with!

2. Give empty corners a purpose!

Plants breathe life into the room and brighten those dim corners. If your bedroom has an industrial-inspired design, opt for low maintenance Cast Iron and Snake Plants. These plant varieties harmonize exceptionally well with materials like steel, brick, copper, and stone. If your bedroom is farmhouse inspired, opt for Spider or Aloe Vera plants as they pair well with beiges, whites, and grays. In a minimalist bedroom opt for large-leaf plants like Bird of Paradise, Silver Evergreen, or Rubber Plants. Just don’t clutter the room with them, unless you love living in a jungle. Always consider the color and texture of the container you will use for your plants in order to ensure a coordinated space. Plants provide the perfect final touch in many bedroom corners!

3. Custom Drapery transforms your space!

Drapery is an easy way to add unique patterns, various textures, and bold color to your space! The best drapery for bedrooms is interwoven materials that are layered with blackout and thermal lining to block sunlight from entering the room. This allows for deeper sleep and a more consistent sleep schedule. Wouldn't your body feel much better sleeping in on a lazy Sunday minus all the bright sunshine? When choosing the color of your drapery, gain inspiration from your surroundings within that space. You have options, so select complementary or contrasting colors taking inspiration from your bedroom wall color or even your bedding. Drapery will create cohesion and provide a beautiful, eye-catching addition to your space!

TIP OF THE MONTH

Quick changes to turn your bedroom into an inviting retreat do not have to be costly. Changes can be made by changing out your lamps, switching out your pillows to add a pop of color and additional texture and updating your nightstand décor. If your room is feeling dark, add a large mirror as it will bounce light around your room. This is the space where you can play with patterns, colors and textures minimally to find what works.
